Tata Motors purely Indian based car manufacturers have come a long way winning many successes. It has rolled out many cars in India as well as globally. Though as in every business Tata Motors too faced many troubles but the will power to move ahead allowed them to sustain in the car industry. The making of the ultra cheap car Nano is the clear example of their hard work and latest innovations.
Initially the idea of building the ultra cheap car by Tata did not gain any support. Many car critics even laughed at the idea of such concept. But Ratan Tata was adamant and was in full confident in rolling out his dream car and proving the critics to be wrong.
Tata Nano was unveiled at the 9th Auto Expo at Pragati Maidan New Delhi and the name Nano was opted to reflect the size and the trend. The in order to bring his dream to reality the car manufacturer set its plant Singhur West Bengal. But the destiny had planned something else for Nano the framers protested over the Nano production at Singhur.
Later Tata won the controversial acquisition of land and were given the permission by the court to set up plant to build the ultra low cost car the Nano . But the protest continued and the car manufacturer was forced to stop the production and relocated the plant to Gujarat. The loss was not minimal Nano which was expected to launch in October 2008 was delayed. But even at this time the company did not loose its confident and continued to be in new with the latest news on Nano.
Finally undergoing all the trouble and hassles March 24 2009 was reserved for Tata Nano. The ultra cheap car made a grand entry into the Indian car market. The little wonder was launched in India at the Gymkhana Club in Mumbai.
The Nano sports a 624cc rear mounted petrol engine which delivers 34.5 bhp. The engine is equipped with a 4speed manual transmission the engine supported with Boschs new Value Motronic system. The Nano is ahead in fuel economy compared to its rivals and offers remarkable fuel efficiency of 23.6 km/litre certified by the Automotive Research Association of India ARAI under mandated test conditions.
With Nano is 3.1 m in length 1.5 m width 1.6m height Nano flaunts with its stylish design and frugal engineering. Nano when compared with Maruti 800 on bumperto bumper length is 8 cent shorter than Maruti 800 but is 21 per cent more spacious in interior volume. It is available in three variants. Starting from Base model to two Deluxe models with AC.
The exterior sports different features for all the three variants. When the Base and the CX gets black colour bumper door handles drivers side outside rear view mirror the top end variant is adorned with body colour bumper body colour door handles drivers side outside rear view mirror. For the base model front windshield comes plain where as the CX version gets tinted and the top end variant gets tinted with top blue band front windshield. Spoiler and Roof breeding is available only for the high end version.
Coming to its interior which is spaciously designed for a people of four carries single tone vinyl seat upholstery and door trim for the base model dual tone vinyl for the CX and complete fabric seat upholstery and vinyl with fabric insert door trims for the LX. The first two variants gets a 2spoke steering wheel whereas the LX gets an extra spoke for the steering. Only the deluxe versions are enhanced with the air conditioner and the power window front only is available only in the LX version.
Safety features include center high mount stop lamp laminated windshield door lock on driver side front amp; rear seat belts additional body reinforcements intrusion beam and is standard on all the variants. Central locking and door lock on passenger side only for the LX version. Booster assisted brakes for the CX and LX variants.
The three variants Base BSII Base BSIII CX BSII CX BSIII LX BSIII comes with the price tag ranging between Rs 1.3 Lakh to Rs 1.8 Lakh.
